We
hardly know where to begin telling you about Aspen!
You already know that this idyllic little town is home to some of the most spectacular
ski areas in the world but did you also know that winter sports are only a few
of the countless reasons to vacation in our historic, arts and culture-filled
mountain paradise? Whatever time of year you choose to visit, Aspen offers a
cornucopia of pleasures and we look forward to sharing them with you!
Summer Activities inside and out
Aspen’s warm, sun-filled summers are as exhilarating as our winters,
with an incredible array of possible activities including hiking, backpacking,
ghost-town exploring, camping, biking, climbing, fly-fishing, horseback riding,
kayaking, whitewater rafting, hunting, and paragliding. You’ll delight
in our world-class arts and culture, our legendary old-fashioned 4th July
Parade, a fabulous Farmers’ Market packed with crafts and local produce
and endless opportunities to bask in downtown Aspen’s street life,
in which outdoor dining, free concerts, late summer night strolling and people-watching
abound.
Family Fun
Aspen is paradise for families on vacation at any time of year. As well as
skiing, boarding, jibbing and shredding on our mountain terrain parks,
your kids will have a blast swimming, climbing, skating at the marvelous
Recreation Centers in Aspen and Snowmass, taking on our first class skateboard
park or tiring themselves out on the best sledding hill you’ll ever
see. Aspen has 26 city parks and a multitude of summer day camps, sports,
music, theatre performances and other cultural events specifically for
children and young people.
Aspen’s Arts, Culture and Festivals
There’s barely a week in Aspen when there isn’t a great event
taking place. Why not plan your trip around one of them? It’s hardly
fair to pick favorites but some of ours include Winterskol, Aspen Institute’s
celebrated Ideas Festival, the world-renowned Aspen Music Festival, the Food
and Wine Classic, Theatre Aspen, Jazz Aspen’s festivals, the Aspen
Santa Fe Ballet, Aspen Film among many, many others…
Shopping
Aspen’s downtown has a huge variety of stores, more than enough to
keep you busy during your stay. If you’re interested in high-end clothing,
art galleries and jewelry, Aspen can compete with any big city in the world
for choice – minus the crowds. But Aspen shopping is also great if
you are looking for gifts, unique items, outdoor apparel and equipment, and
hidden treasures (insider tip - check out both floors
of Carl’s Pharmacy,
probably the best ‘everything’ store on the planet!)
Restaurants
Aspen’s locals and visitors take their food seriously and with many
wonderful dining options available, the only common denominator is great
food. There are lots of family-friendly options, like Little Annie’s,
Boogie’s Diner and the Hickory House, relaxing yet chic restaurants
like Brexi, Lulu Wilson’s and L’Hostaria, fabulous outdoor dining
in summer at restaurants like Pacifica and Takah Sushi, and world-class cuisine
at Matsuhisa, Pinon’s and many others.
Off-Seasons
The off-seasons are Aspen’s best-kept secret! Whether you come for
gentle spring days or to experience the incredible colors, and crisp evenings
of autumn, Aspen is always bustling and fun. As well as being great value,
off-seasons are great for experiencing Aspen at locals’ pace – attend
a show at the Historic Wheeler Opera House, marvel at the beauty of the Maroon
Bells, delve into old Aspen in our museums and ghost towns, hike and bike
miles of trails. Make sure to check the calendar as some of our best events
like Aspenfilm’s Shortsfest actually take place in the so-called off-season!
Winter Activities
Whether you’re an avid skier or snowboarder, a back-country enthusiast,
beginner, intermediate or expert, family group or individual, you’ll
find impeccable conditions, the world’s best teachers and superb facilities
on the four Aspen/Snowmass mountains. You can also partake of every other
winter activity imaginable, including Nordic and back-country skiing, snowmobiling,
snowshoeing and ice skating. And don’t forget our other favorite winter
sport – bundling up warmly to stroll through this quintessential little
mountain town, enjoying the lights, cozy bookshops, cafes and enticing stores! |
